Crossing the border
Lebanon and Israel share a land border you can cross by car. Keep your passport, national driving licence and International Driving Permit together, and check opening hours and any toll or vignette requirements before you travel.

Driving on a foreign licence
A tourist may drive on a valid foreign licence for up to one year from entry; no International Driving Permit is commonly requested, though an IDP or an English/Hebrew translation helps if your licence is in another script.
Tolls & road charges
Highway 6 (Kvish Shesh) is the main toll road and is fully electronic by plate with no booths; the charge plus a service fee is added to your rental bill. The fast-lane (Kvish Mahir) into Tel Aviv and the Carmel/Gilon tunnels are also electronically tolled.
Parking in the cities
Kerb markings set the rule: blue-and-white means paid parking (via app such as Pango/Cellopark or meter), red-and-white means no stopping, and grey/unmarked is free. Residential blue zones and unpaid bays are ticketed and cars can be towed.
Fines & camera enforcement
Speeding, phone-use and seatbelt offences are largely camera- and patrol-enforced with fines from a few hundred shekels; there are no informal cash payments. Rental firms pass camera tickets to your card with a handling fee.
If you have an accident
Call police on 100 (ambulance 101); a police report is required for injuries or disputed fault. Photograph the scene, exchange details, and do not move vehicles on an injury accident - notify your rental company before leaving.
Driving in the capital
Tel Aviv parking is acutely scarce and tightly enforced: blue-and-white bays need the Pango app and many central streets are resident-only, so visitors typically use paid lots or park outside the centre.
